ANDREW TAKYI-APPIAH
Andrew Takyi-Appiah is the Founder and Managing Director of Zeepay. He is an experienced ex-banker with over 20 years in the industry, having worked for key organisations worldwide. He is an expert in Banking and Mobile Payments, and has successfully expanded businesses across multiple jurisdictions. He was a key part of Ecobank’s growth in the Eastern part of Africa and in recent times for Zeepay.
Andrew’s experience spans the world of marketing and banking, including a strong background in strategy and transformation. He has been part of key strategy development for banks in his working career. He has held various positions, from being a Brand Manager for NESCAFE to holding several senior roles in both banking and Big Four Consulting.
Andrew has worked with a range of institutions such as the Commonwealth Secretariat, Nestle, Barclays UK, GT Bank, Ecobank, UT Bank, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He has lived and worked in three continents – Europe, North America, and Africa. In Africa, he has experience and exposure working in more than nine markets, including Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ghana, Burundi, Zambia, Malawi, and South Africa. Andrew has also been
part of key retail deployments across Africa and comes on board with in-depth retail and payments experience.
In his spare time, Andrew speaks on mobile payments, finance, and banking and has been featured as a guest speaker at several international conferences. His passion lies within financial inclusion and mobile payments. He studied at the Greenwich School of Management, an associate school of the University of
Hull, United Kingdom, and the University of California, Los Angeles. In 2014, Andrew founded Zeepay, and he managed to kick it off in 2016 after a successful Seed raise led by GLICO Insurance and a few privately held investors. He successfully led Zeepay from zero processed volume (turnover) in 2016 to USD1.2 billion in 2021. Today the company is one of the major global icons in FINTECH with operations in over 20 jurisdictions, including the Caribbean – Barbados. The company is licensed by various banking regulators globally, including the Financial Conduct Authority in the UK and the Bank of Ghana in Ghana.
